Recently I've begun using Mozilla Firefox (free web browser -- better than IE) and the Open Office suite (free office suite as good as or better than MS Office) partly for the sheer pleasure of using non-Microsoft programs. Open Office has a very good word processor, the equivalent of Power Point, and a spreadsheet (like Excel)--all free. A handy feature is that one can save documents as PDF files.
