Victoria Day! God Save the Queen!

Today is Victoria Day across Canada. We celebrated it last night, appropriately with fireworks, at the rural home of someone of our congregation. Thanks David and Melissa, and Mike, our resident pryrothechnician!

This morning on CBC we heard the Overture of Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks. Always impressive.

Diamond Jubilee

From tomorrow's bulletin....

A.D. 2012 marks the Diamond Jubilee of our gracious queen, the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the thrones of several countries, including Canada. The death of King George VI from cancer on Feb. 6, 1952, instantly transformed a then-25-year-old Princess Elizabeth into the Queen of Canada, though her formal coronation took place more than a year later, in June 1953. Since tomorrow marks the day she became our queen, we will sing the Royal Anthem after the benediction this morning.

As for me, neither monarchist nor republican but Canadian!
