Long form census

The big deal various media are making out of the government's decision to make the long form census optional is rather amusing. My guess is that only employees of Statistics Canada, statisticians, political scientists, social engineers and the media care about this. The guy in the street, not so much. This particular guy in the street thinks the only error the government made was in keeping the long form census alive at all. They should have killed it completely.

That's exactly right. Leaving around a voluntary long-form census demonstrates a lack of courage. A voluntary long-form census will produce useless information - so better not to spend that money at all.
