The new church to be established between Ancaster and Cornerstone Canadian Reformed Churches will be called "Providence." Thus the members of the new parish voted yesterday evening. The new consistory will, Lord willing, be constituted June 24 which will also mark the institution of Providence Church. A few short months ago we established the Streetlight Mission Church downtown. Christ is busy here, gathering, defending and preserving his church. May we be faithful and effective tools in his hands! May he be pleased to use us for his good purposes!

We already have a Providence Canadian Reformed Church here in Edmonton. It's had that name since 1981. I guess a name can be used twice since church names aren't trademarked (AFAIK).

Richard, I had hoped for a different name (because of the reason you state) but it's the one (out of 10) that the parishioners of the new congregation chose.

Out of curiosity, what were the other names suggested?

Let's see if I can remember: Salem, Shalom, Hope, Faith, Calvary, Central, Elim, Redemption and Maranatha.

How's life in Edmonton, Richard? Or are you back in this neck of the woods?
